Minnesota Tenants Union 2008: New Community Space, New Human Rights Strategies . . .
Truth to Power Says: "The right to decent, affordable housing is a fundamental, inalienable right of all people." The Minnesota Tenants Union, the Minneapolis-based veteran of three decades of low-income tenant struggles for housing justice, has opened new offices at Nicollet Avenue and 22nd Street with a new emphasis on housing as a fundamental, inalienable human right. Rooted in over 30 years experience advocating with and for low-income tenants in the Twin Cities, the Minnesota Tenants Union will emphasize community education and coalition-building with serious allies locally, regionally, nationally and internationally working for fundamental social change.
The Minnesota Tenants Union recognizes that tenants will forever be in a losing, defensive, catch-as-catch-can (at best!) position and always find their options and lives severely limited until society as a whole (or a major part of that society) adopts a new paradigm, understanding and working into its basic policies and practices the truth that all people have a fundamental, inalienable human right to adequate, affordable housing.
